Hold My Papers · iPhone & iPad
Privacy Policy
How Hold My Papers for iPhone and iPad handles your notes, local data and the services you choose.
Last updated: September 30, 2026
1. No account, advertising or tracking
Hold My Papers does not require an account. It does not send your notes, photos, attachments or usage activity to the developer or a developer-operated server. The app contains no advertising, third-party analytics, tracking tools or remote crash-reporting SDKs. It does not operate a cloud synchronization service.
2. Information stored on your device
The app stores the content you create or import: note titles and text, Markdown formatting, Books and their order, Tags and subtags, photos, attached files and related metadata. It also stores local History snapshots, Recovery copies and deleted items in The Basket.
Local preferences include status markers, Shortcuts, Recents and opening dates, the active Paper, theme and writing settings, and other app choices. These data are used to provide the features you choose and are not uploaded to the developer.
3. Photos, files and links
When you choose Insert Photo, the system photo picker supplies the photos you select. The app does not browse your entire photo library. Imported photos and file attachments are copied into local app storage so they remain available in your notes. Photo cropping and sizing preserve the original image.
Import and restore use files you select through system interfaces. Storage providers may download those files as part of your selection. Link previews are built from information in your notes; the app does not automatically fetch website titles, thumbnails or favicons. Opening a link is an explicit action handled by the system or the destination app.
4. App Access and biometrics
Optional App Access can protect viewing with biometrics or a separate app passcode. Authentication credentials include a derived passcode verifier stored in the iOS Keychain, not your plaintext app passcode. iOS performs biometric authentication; Hold My Papers does not receive or store your facial or fingerprint data.
The Privacy Shield conceals the workspace when the app moves into the background. App Access and the shield protect viewing inside the app; they do not add a separate encryption layer to notes, backups or exports. The app uses iOS file protection for its local content. Device security and system backups are managed separately by iOS.
5. Backups, exports and services you choose
You can create verified ZIP backups, export documents or media, copy content to the Clipboard, share files or print. These actions provide the selected content to the destination or system service you choose. Backups and exports are not encrypted by Hold My Papers. Save them only to destinations you trust.
Library backups include Papers, Books, Tags, media and saved organization. Complete Backup additionally archives History and Recovery copies. Library restore replaces the current library and its saved organization; it does not import archived History, Recovery or The Basket. App Access credentials are not part of these library backups.
If you use iCloud Drive, another Files provider, a sharing app, a printer or a device-level backup, that provider or Apple handles the content under its own settings and policies. The developer does not receive those files merely because you save or share them.
6. Apple Shortcuts
The app provides Apple Shortcuts actions to create a Paper, open one or append text. These actions use the local workspace and respect the current App Access authorization. Any other actions or destinations in a shortcut are controlled by the shortcut you configure and the services involved.
7. Retention and deletion
Deleting a Paper normally places an independent copy in The Basket. Other copies may remain in History or Recovery. Emptying The Basket permanently removes its entries; it does not clear History or Recovery.
Erase Demo Content removes the introductory Papers, Books and their related examples, including edits you made to those examples. Erase All Local Content permanently clears the previous local content and installs a fresh starter tour; appearance and App Access preferences remain.
Exports and existing device backups are not deleted by in-app erasure. Manage those copies through the destination or backup settings you used. Removing the app deletes its local app storage subject to iOS behavior; the system may retain Keychain items separately. Keep a usable external backup before removing app data.
8. Support correspondence
If you email andrei.cristian.costa@gmail.com, the developer receives your email address, message and any attachments you send. Correspondence is processed through the email provider to answer your request and investigate the issue. This is separate from the app’s local operation. Please do not send private notes, app passcodes or backup archives.
Support correspondence is kept as needed to handle and follow up on the request and meet applicable obligations. You can use the same address to request deletion of correspondence, subject to any required retention. The developer cannot access notes stored on your device.
9. This website
These pages are hosted on GitHub Pages. They contain no added analytics, tracking scripts or advertising. GitHub may process technical information about website requests under the GitHub Privacy Statement. Visiting this website is separate from using the app.
10. Changes and contact
This policy may be updated if features or data practices change. The date above identifies the current revision. For privacy questions, contact Andrei Constantinescu at andrei.cristian.costa@gmail.com.
